Friends of Fido is committed to assisting the rescue of dogs from Mahoning County Dog Pound in Youngstown, OH. They accomplish this by fundraising, public education of responsible pet ownership, and promoting spay/neuter programs. They utilize funds to supply necessary medical care, veterinary and other expenses to give dogs a well-deserved second chance at life.  They also financially assist local animal rescues who are willing to pull dogs from the Pound and ultimately find a forever home for them.

One of the major expenses Friends of Fido faces is that they pay for all vetting for the dogs at the pound. They have been called to save dogs that have been hit by a vehicle, thrown from a car, dogs with embedded collars, those with parvo virus, Heartworm, tumors, ear infections, urinary tract infections … the list goes on and on. The organization is 100% volunteer based. Friends of Fido is fortunate that they are able to help the dogs and have never had to say no to one in need. They cannot do this without the continued support of the community. In 2016 they spent over $50,000 on the vetting of dogs.  In August of 2017 they had already spent over $30,000 to help local dogs.
